This, perhaps, is one of the most heartbreaking things that you can see on the internet today: a tearjerking video of a toddler trying to wake up his dead mother on the railway platform at the Muzaffarpur Station in Bihar, India.
In the video, uploaded many times by different social media users, the innocent child can be seen playing with the blanket that covers the body of his mom; trying to wake her up from time to time. The 14-second clip is short enough for one to finish in a snap, but the content is too sad and tragic that it deeply affected the netizens who were able to watch it.
“Heartbreaking. This child is not even aware that his mother is dead. She died due to hunger and tiredness in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. May God bless her soul,” @IamMayank_ wrote.
“It’s time for every Indian to stand together and speak up in one voice. #SpeakUpIndia for our brothers and sisters struggling for survival; for those whose voice has been silenced; for those in despair & are fearful. We are India. Together, we can make a difference,” @RahulGandhi tweeted.
But according to the police, the migrant woman was on way to Muzaffarpur from Ahmedabad by a Shramik Special train. Ramakant Upadhyay, the Dy SP of the Government Railway Police in Muzaffarpur, told reporters that the woman, who was accompanied by her sister and brother-in-law, had died on the Madhubani bound train.
Getting information, the police brought down the body and sent it for postmortem. Citing the brother-in-law of the deceased, Upadhyay said the 35-year-old was undergoing treatment for “some disease” and was also “mentally unstable”; and “only doctors can tell” what really caused her death.

New life for dead mother’s kid?
Meanwhile, regardless of what the real story is, the welfare of the child is still at stake, now that his mother is no longer around to take care of him. With this, Dr. Amar Patnaik came to the rescue and vowed to support the toddler until he grows up.
“I haven’t been able to sleep after seeing this picture. A child torn away from his mother forever on a railway platform and under these difficult circumstances. I have decided to raise this unfortunate child by bearing all his expenses towards food, health and education as long as I can and until he becomes a major,” he said.
“As God’s creation on this earth, my conscience tells me that if I can’t do even this, then the whole purpose of my existence in this world has no meaning. I appeal to the hon’ble CM of Bihar @officecmbihar, Shri @NitishKumarji, the District Magistrate @DM_Muzaffarpur and the Railway officials to kindly connect the near and dear ones of the child to me so that I take the matter forward,” he continued.
