A mother posted a video showing her hitting her daughter. After watching the video, a lot of people, especially parents, were angry and devastated.
But there is another message behind the viral video.
Parents Sam Carrier, 29, and her partner, Rob Evans, 27, started with a very challenging journey when they found out that their little bundle of joy, Daisy, who is still 15 months old during the time of the video, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after she was given birth.
What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic Fibrosis is an incurable genetic condition in which its distressing symptoms manifest early during infancy. It requires dedicated care not only from families but also from medical professionals.
A heel prick test and undergoing a high salt concentration in sweat test are required to determine this condition. Its symptoms include digestive and respiratory difficulties associated with an excessive build-up of mucus, especially in the digestive and lung tracts.
Although it is incurable, cystic fibrosis is manageable. However, it requires a great amount of medical care that includes intensive physiotherapy administered at home and involves drinking up to 40 pills in a day.
The Viral Video
To make everyone aware of the disease, Carrier and Evans filmed themselves performing a 25-minute physiotherapy session on their daughter which they carry out three times a day. Since the footage shows the mother delivering repeated and strong pats to the chest to loosen up the build-up of mucus in the lungs, it became a source of controversy and opinions shared by netizens, which became abusive and bordering threatening.
Nobody would have imagined that the couple created an awareness video in which a heavy pat on the chest is to alleviate the build-up of mucus. People thoughts it is an act of child abuse.
Some users were in shock and saying “you’ll break her ribs” while others published rude comments.Despite her tiny frame, the baby was very comfortable and even fall asleep during the session. If the mother was abusing and causing harm, little Daisy would not fall asleep during the treatment session.
Parents Understood Everything
The ugly side of the internet was countered by messages of support and love, reinforcing hope for spreading awareness of the issue to the community. There are viewers who are aware of the cystic fibrosis treatment.

Without the treatment session, Daisy’s lungs would accumulate more mucus that could further cause respiratory distress and even death.
